Job description, tasks and responsibilities:
“New bio-materials for the urethra bioimplants development using 3D printing techniques”.
The main goal of the PhD is to developing biomaterials for bioimplants fabrication using 3D -printing approach, in order to allow the reconstructive treatment of urethral defects in both children and adults. The large scale of urological problems in children and adults related to urethral malformations, and the almost complete lack of implants that would enable proper reconstruction of the important organ of the urinary system is the main reason for undertaking this research. Consequently, to meet the overall objective, the project activities will be divided into three main stages: i) development and characterization of biomaterials for 3D-printing purposes, ii) development of 3D-printing technology for urethral bioimplants fabrication, iii) functional in vitro evaluation of the as produced bioimplants. It is assumed that the use of hydrogel-based composite biomaterials together with 3D-printing approach will allow to produce fully biocompatible and biofunctional urethra implants.
